Robert W. Carlstrom Co. Inc. was founded in 1945 by Robert W. Carlstrom and specialized in small concrete masonry construction. It was a home-based business that grew and eventually moved to a location at 709 S Front Street, Mankato. (Robert originally worked for his brother, George Carlstrom, but left in 1945 to start his own business.) Robert’s sons, Jon and Lee, joined the business in 1964 and 1966 respectively. As capital and human resources grew in the 1970s, the company expanded into all phases of general construction. In 1976, RWC incorporated and was purchased by Robert’s sons, Jon and Lee Carlstrom. In 2003, Scott Umhoefer was appointed President and in 2004, Scott and Ian Carlstrom, grandson of Robert and son of Jon, purchased the business. In 2007, RWC took steps towards building a new home for the company which is now located at 1901 Excel Drive, Mankato, and showcases many of the talents, craftmanship, design concepts and building materials utilized by the company. Jeremy Hatlevig was appointed the VP of Operations in 2011 and in 2012 Scott took over full ownership of RWC. This continuity in leadership has yielded steady growth and preserved Robert’s commitment to the highest standards of workmanship and service.
